The hub was toast, shame on me for doubting..... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: New hub with front wheel bearing?, MI-Roger ![]() |
Michigan law requires that automotive repair facilities provide the car's owner with all removed defective parts, (actually requires them to provide the owner the option of receiving parts), so I found my old hub and bearings packed in a box and placed in the passenger footwell.
I looked at the old hub and it is very obvious from the shiny metallic scars that the mechanic tried, unsuccessfully, to remove the outer bearing from the hub. The inner race is effective welded to the hub surface, the balls/rollers and cage are gone, the outer race and the intact inner wheel bearing are both still mounted in a separate steel cup or sleeve. Numerous marks from a bearing pulley or other devise on the junction point of inner race to hub, but no evidence of the race ever moving.
