maybe not done yet ... Posted by bobc [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Stick a fork in the 9-5, it's done..., Djost, Sat, 30 Sep 2006 14:10:56 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
First it is just awful to get hit with these sort of bills all at once. My friend took a similar hit in his acura recently at 115k. He coughed up the dough because he feels his japanese car is so reliable and worth it. (get the irony?)
I assume that you had the work done already? a dealer or indy maybe. So its done, the money is gone and the car is running well again. Why not just drive it? It is infinitely more enjoyable to drive than my friend's Acura.
If you decide to keep it for another 100k (and I believe you should) keep in mind:
- the TB is a known issue and an easy DIY with help from the board. search the board for tips on how to keep it clean. When it does go do it yourself. its pricey but you can save lots of labor. $350 or so and an hr or two on a Saturday? instructions and pictures at thesaabsite: http://www.thesaabsite.com/95/95Throttlebodyreplacement.htm
- head gasket will be fine, the head bolts on your car (and mine) were too soft and torqued improperly at the factory. I am replacing my head bolts next weekend.
- ABS module is an easy DIY. send it off to be rebuilt ~$160? check this BB for more info. thesaabsite has instructions http://www.thesaabsite.com/95/954absmodulereplacement.htm
- the PCV has changed a number of times over the years and is up to revision #6. took me about 2 hrs.
- tires, well yea, new tires will put a hurtin on you. lots of folks recommend Kuhmos (relatively inexpensive)
I guess what I am saying is that its a great car and this board will save you tons of money and frustration.
