Cooper tires - one year later..... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] ![]() ![]() |
Last fall I purchased a set of Cooper Lifelinere SLE Sport tires in the P225/50/WR16 size for my 2000 lpt sedan. These tires were rated 380-AA-A for treadlife, temperature, traction, and pricing was great from a small local dealer.
My observations/pleasure level with these tires after one year of ownership and 20,000 miles of non-winter time use is mixed, but mostly positive. In the categories of dry traction, wet traction, light snow traction, and noise I am pleased. In the category of tread life I now see I got what I paid for. These tires will probably be completely spent at 35,000 to 40,000 miles.
Since I drive nearly 30,000 miles per year in my 9-5, with 20,000 of those miles being on summer tires, I am not completely happy with a summer tire that will not last two full years - even if the price was low to start. But realizing there are many owners out there who only drive 8,000 to 10,000 miles per year - and that long life tires for them will expire due to age before they are fully used - this tire would be completely acceptable and possibly the best choice considering cost.
Cooper has since discontinued this tire under the SLE Sport model name, but it appears they may have simply re-named it as their Zeon Sport A/S tire. It is the only Zeon tire with a tread wear number above 150 since the other Zeon's are all short-lived performance tires.
Still undecided if I will replace these with the Zeon models next summer. Maybe the problem is the tires, maybe it is my expectations. Just thought I would share my experience.
