Power Loss With Age Posted by Shaun [Email] (#683) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Shaun) on Mon, 9 Oct 2006 20:43:12 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hi..
Just wanted to check, assuming maintenance is all done on schedule and all engine parts are working (not new, but withing Saabs operating limits), should my car suffer a power loss with age?
Surely a 5 year old 9-5 with 100000miles on the odometer will not be as tight or responsive as a new one... but could i look at say a 10-20% decrease in torque and power?
went to the workshop the other day... and TechII readout for my car was 266Nm instead of specified 280Nm... Bhp was slightly lower as well.
Could it be the oil i was using? 0W-50? the gear box showing signs of age hence the Trionic is cutting back? Tyres too fat and sticky? 225/45/17 Goodyear Eagle F1s.
Asked the agent to do a thorough check of the car and there was absolutely nothing wrong. Vaccuum lines, intercooler hoses, APC, fuel system, exhaust leaks, boost pressure all within limits and specs.
Am running on premium Caltex Techron Platinum gas.. Ron 98. Plugs are new and the DI is 6 months old.
Other than a slight leak from the radiator and from the timing cover, nothing wrong with the car.
Comments anyone? Or is she getting old =)
