Same here. Also an 03 Aero. It has been discussed before. I initially bought into gear backlash and it just being normal. However, I have been in 9-5s that don’t do this. I came across something on a UK board that indicated that Saab-Sweden issued some sort of fix for this involving changing the seat base. The problem is in the holding torque of the seat motor. This is why it will seem ok in certain positions or sometimes after you adjust the seat. Something was made out of spec and Saab reportedly knows about this issue. There was a batch of defective seat bases installed in some cars. The UK dealers reportedly know about this matter. Apparently the fix is quite costly so I guess Saab is trying to keep the lid on this for the US.
That said, I tried this concept on my dealer and of course he had no clue. The tech said all 9-5s do this, but I don’t he even realized what I was talking about. It is very annoying and could be potentially dangerous in a crash. Let the BB know if you get the fix info. I couldn’t register on the UK site for some unknown reason. I also can’t link to it here.
