Thanks for your help (Hunter and John D.)...
I didn't see any clips holding my gasket down when I removed it, but I suppose I could have missed them. And I can't find any evidence of the factory using adhesive, but... It seemed like a press/pressure fit... maybe I stretched/deformed the gasket when I removed it. I'll get a tube of 3M Weather Strip Adhesive (and use it sparingly, of course -- it shouldn't take much to get the job done.)
One thing I've noticed with the VWs and Saabs I've owned... sometimes there are small and undocumented differences between cars even if they are the same model year, model, and trim level. For example, by all accounts my '04 9-5 Arc sedan (with HK radio) should be prewired to accept the Saab accessory hands-free telephone harness and it isn't. (I looked, the local Saab dealer looked, and a really good local car audio shop looked). Instead, my car has a single unidentified red wire with a small two prong plug on the end of it (probably just a 12v power lead, but we didn't take the time to trace it.
