Well - I've had quite an experience with this reverse problem. I drive a '99 9-5 (stick) with 90K on it currently. Initially, I had infrequent troubles getting into reverse, however rolling backwards would always help. When on a downhill grade (no rolling backwards), I had to sit there for a long time trying just about everything until it would eventually pop in.
I have had two delearships and an independent mechanic look at it. The linkage is not the problem (it has been adjusted by the dealer and the indie). Then, at only 80K, the indie replaced the clutch and the reverse gear assembly.
The problem has not gone away!!! Now, reverse works more frequently on the first try, however it does seem to be getting worse again. One thing that did change with the fixes is that rolling backwards nolonger helps! Since then, I have had it back in the shop several times for adjustments/etc in hopes of fixing things. The transmission fluid has been changed. My mechanic is very fair and has promised to tear it apart again (for free) to fix the problem.
Has anyone else experienced this trouble with reverse? Any suggestions for me?
