Service Theft Alarm - AGAIN! Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Mon, 30 Oct 2006 07:41:36 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Approximately 2 months ago I first received this message on my failing SID. I did the research on this board and others, located instructions on how to repair, bought the special batteries, and replaced them.
VOILA! No additional messages; until Saturday. At least I think that is what was displayed on my further failing SID.
I am enjoying a day of vacation on a beautiful fall day so I removed the alarm module a second time. My concerns were: inadequate sealing when re-assembling; batteries broke free of the circuit board (I secured them to the circuit board with a wrap of electrical tape thinking the cover would help hold them in place after screwing it shut); poor solder job.
My previous sealing job seemed adequate when I pried the case apart. The batteries were still in position on the circuit board. The solder job looked sloppier than I remembered with possible poor connections, but tested OK at 3.2v at each solder connection.
I cleaned up/touched up the solder job. I placed a block of weatherstripping foam in the case cover immediately above the batteries to help keep them secure. Re-sealed the case with slightly more black RTV than I used before. Reinstalled it in the car.
Now I just have to wait to see if I get another "Service Theft Alarm" message. If it happens again I will do the Tech II de-activation method.
BTW - The SID is boxed and ready to be shipped out this morning for repair.
