Need some advice on our 2001 9-5SE. We have a very long history of blue smoke on start up.
If anyone has ever watched the movie Uncle Buck well we joke - oh another uncle buck morning. I’m exaggerating of course. Our car has a quick cloud of blue smoke (varies in size and definitely blue) and then it stops.
- Turbo was replaced 1 year and 3months ago (done under Saab warranty)
- PCV was replaced 3 months later (done under Saab warranty)
- Recently the Throttle Body had to be replaced (paid under GM extended warranty)
We've constantly complained to our Saab dealer. I think they just got sick of us and wanted to outlast our factory warranty period. I’ve also complained and complained and up the chain in the dealership and they just won't commit to solving my problem (unless I pay a lot in diagnostic fees). I get a response - a lot of Saabs do this- get use to it.
We did recently go and get a second opinion from a shop that works on European cars and within an hour they found oil in the intake side from the Turbo and in a month old TB. They felt pretty strongly the turbo is failing again.
Do we just ignore this and sale the car in 2 years anyway? Frankly it won’t be worth that much anyway. The shop we went to may or may not be able to use our GM extended warranty. That is our next battle to see if they can get authorization. I did call GM PP myself but they said there has to be a failed part for them to cover a repair. Having blue smoke indicates there is a problem, but a dealer would have to find the failed part. How can a mechanic show a bad turbo. Hmm- I feel I’m in a Seinfeld episode.
