DI Cassette?

We've only had this car for a month and a half and I can't believe my complete love affair and total frustration all rolled into one!
We are thinking we may have a DI Cassette problem with our 2001 Aero Wagon. The car has been very difficult to start(my husband had to sit in a parking lot for two hours, two hundred miles from home yesterday until it decided to start again) It turns over but doesn't completly start. And it's been doing this jerky thing while driving as if it's dying and the check engine light came on yesterday and hasn't went off since. We don't have a Saab dealer anywhere near us and would like to do the work ourselves. From what I've been reading I think the DI Cassette is the problem, what do you all think? The other thing I read about is this black cassette and red cassette, is there a difference or does it depend on what car you have? Any suggestions would be most helpful, it's our only car right now and we have no choice but to keep driving it. We're going to take it in to our indie tomorrow to have the codes read. Any help would be appreciated, we love this car even though it's been a headache since we got it (alarm kept going off two weeks ago and we pulled the fuse)
