Did you get a Check Engine Light? Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Tue, 14 Nov 2006 08:08:20 In Reply to: Issues going uphill, Alex, Mon, 13 Nov 2006 18:59:56 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
On a non-turbocharged car you would expect the problem to be spark, with lesser chance of it being a fuel, or transmisison problem(not downshifting when required). My son had a similar problem with his Grand Am last Christmas when driving through the mountains that was caused by an improperly installed boot on one sparkplug resulting in mis-fire under high load only. He got a CEL when it happened to him.
Our Saabs typically "love" hilly routes as the turbo just keeps providing more boost and no downshifting is needed. How old are the plugs? May as well start there; inspect, replace and properly gap the plugs (unless nearly new) and inspect the IDMs for evidence of arcing or leaking oil. You may have one plug with a cracked insulator.
When was the fuel filter replaced? Saab recommends a new filter at 60,000 mile intervals.
