I too purchased a 2003 Saab recently, and had the dealer give me the same line. I fell for it, in part because I had to junk an Audi with only 196K miles on it because the transmission replacement cost more than the car was worth. If you drain it yourself, you probably only get about half the oil out, as that in the torque converter doesn't come out unless it is hooked up to a flushing machine. Of course the flushing machine just replaces your dirty fluid with somebody elses filtered fluid (maybe that is an exagerration, but they have to have some fluid to flush the dirty fluid out.) My thought, after spending the $265 was that even a $5 or more per quart (for the recommended Toyota Type IV fluid, or buying it from Saab for that matter, using a couple of quarts, so it is 50% clean, then running it for a few miles or more and repeating the process (assuming you change the trans. filter), and then replacing the fluid that comes out so you now have 75% new fluid would probably be pretty good and still less than half the cost of the fancy flush. I did this on my American car (can't tell you the result yet, except I currently have more money in my pocket.) I hear that Saab transmissions can be finicky and it is definitely a good idea to keep clean fluid in there.
