So, I gather, pressing through the hole moves the catch tab that holds the back in place? I do have a small diameter pin punch (back North) and vise - and if the punch is too large for the hole, a hand driven drill. Or, for that matter, a drill would make a good substitute for a pin punch. It would make its own handle in a piece of hard plastic or wood...
