I've got an '03 Aero, also with the manual transmission. It has 62k miles. Lemme give your questions a shot:
What was the original Oil Change service interval on the car?
10k normal service, 5k severe.
Is SAAB still recommending same oil change interval?
5k is highly recommended in light of the sludge issues.
What was the original recommended oil type to meet warranty?
The owner's manual is very open ended. At a minimum, an SL-rated 5W-30 semi-synthetic is required. Note SL has been replaced by SM. xW-40 full synthetics are recommended as well. The European "A3" rating is also mentioned, but not as a requirement.
FWIW I use Mobil 1 5W-40 and change it every 5k.
I am going to call dealer to see what records they have for service as well.
What what the recommended coolant change interval?
Good question. Had mine replaced around 50k.
From reading here it looks like "Sludge warranty" is 8 years/100,000 and extends to non-original owners. Is that correct?
This is correct, but you must have documented service records!
Is the underside area of the trunk (where the light is) supposed to be carpeted or is that bare metal? Doesn't matter to me but looks like it might hvae been at one time and just trying to determine how sold.
The roof of the trunk? No carpeting on mine I think.
