As you might know 205 is the width of your tire in millimeters, 55 is the % ratio (called aspect ratio) between width and sidewall height and 16 is the rim diameter in inches.
What you do when you move from 215 to 205 without changing the other parameters is reducing wheel circumference. You won't have an issue fitting the wheel as it will be smaller, but you'll be reducing your ground clearance a bit and you'll be effectively altering the ratio of transmission. Therefore you'll need DOT clearance unless this size is explicitely foreseen for your car.
The normal thing to do when you want to fit narrower tires (good for snow and ice) is to increase the aspect ratio. You usually can move one step up and down without changing rim width. In this case you'd consider 20/60R15.
And, as already pointed out : watch the Load Index too!
