I was thinking of doing the same thing with my 99'V6, but for the moment I just went with a single din kenwood. I will tell you it was not an easy task. I ended up using a harness that was designed for a land rover which fit perfectly, along with a single din pocket (not needed if its double din). After wiring it all up, the stock harman/kardon unit (AS2) did not play well at all with it!! I would push a button the head and the factory amp would BANG then start playing. Ended up having the amp by-passed, and hooked directly in with the head unit. No center speaker, but Sound is good, just needs more bass. Also resistors were added to compensate for super screwy impedances.
It looks ok, but for not being a professional installer it works out. Good luck to you!
