Yes, the V6 is immune to sludging and head gasket issues, unlike the 4 cylinder. The big bummer for the V6 is the cam belt which costs around $800 to have it replaced along with the associated tensioner/idler. Since it's an interference engine, a failed cam belt ruins the engine. I own a V6 and love it. The water pump failed on mine at 50K miles and I had the thermostat replaced. I bet a SAAB 9-5 with the V6 will return. They will likely use the V6 from the 9-3? We will have to wait and see? I did talk to a Guy online in England that works for Vauxhall and he told me the V6 (used in the 9-5) is a very expensive engine and very well engineered. He told me it's got good balance but I didn't understand exactly what he was talking about. I think it was something to do with the firing order? He said 200K miles with reasonable care should not be a problem.
