Exactly what happened to me last week... And we drive our 99 9-5 Wagon on short trip, the weather got cold, and when I saw the foam, I thought about the head gasket.... but it had been replaced about six weeks ago, so that wasn't it.
Since foam doesn't lubricate an engine very well, I changed the oil on a late Sunday afternoon before the trip home. Everything is fine again.
Thanks for the reassurance Anders. Dave Perry at Midtown in Toronto came up with the same answer for me last Friday.
