I just replaced the battery's on my 2001 9-5 Aero and yes the module can be opened. From removing the wheel and instaling the wheel back on the car,it took me about 30-40 min. for the entire job. Very easy, one of the easiest DIY.I orderd the battery's from microbattery.com (Panasonic BR2/3A T2SP Lithium with tabs 3V 1200 mAh) for $5.95 each and you don't have to buy in a big quantity to get a discount on shipping. Hope this helps.
