Cool start with immediate stall - 2005 2.3T engine Posted by CrNiFe [Email] (#408) [Profile/Gallery] (more from CrNiFe) on Fri, 15 Dec 2006 19:32:15 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Over the fall, I was have a problem with cool weather starts, say anything below 8 C (about 45F), in which the engine would stall after a long crank. It would always start on the second turn of the key, but it was frustrating to think what the coming winter was going to bring, and I didn't want to strand wife and kids...
After some searching, Dave Perry at Midtown detected a coolant sensor variation, in which the sensor was reading about 4 C (7F) difference in actual and sensed temperatures. This must have caused a software conflict in the ECM, because we changed it and have not had the problem since, even in much colder weather (-10 C).
It is weird that the same week, another 2005 was in the shop, and another tech tried the same solution, and it worked.
We took advantage to change the seals of the water pump, which apparently have been an issue on this engine.
I figured I would post the solution here, for reference.
Cheers,
