Are Xenons worth it.

For a $500-800 upgrade then yes I would get the 9-5 with bixenons. On an audi or BMW I would pay even more, becuase their regular headlights are not that good. But if the 2002 saab 9-5 non xenon light is as good as the 2001, I wouldnt go spending $1000s on an upgrade. The 2001 9-5 lights are almost as bright as the BMW Xenons on my 328i, and far superior to the dreadfull A4 lights.
I think upgrading will be difficult, not just because of all the expensive replacement hardware, but also the wiring and bulb failure sensing are different. However it is possible - plenty of BMW owners have done it, but not cheaply. Dont think about xenon H4 bulb replacements you see around, either the cheapo blue tinted but otherwise ordinary filament bulbs, or real xenon HID lights but made to fit where a normal halogen bulb goes, they are illegal, dont self level and are unsuited to the lamp reflectors used with normal bulbs.
