Hi all,

A few weeks ago I had bought the front & rear bar upgrade for my '01. I installed the rear and it went in easy. The hardest thing was having to unhook the exhaust hanger so I could slide the bar through.

As for the front, I knew I would have to unbolt the subframe to install it, so I decided to have my indy take over. Well, lemme tell ya, what he thought would be a "2 hour max" job turned into 6 hours, and that was with some help from me.

If you decide to do this be aware that on an older car like mine, especially with New England winters, you're going to have a big problem with rusted and corroded bolts. I was aware that the sway bar bolts were likely to break from my readings on this board, so the day before I loaded them up with PB rust blaster. But even with that, we broke one and what a b**** it was trying to get out the broken stud; there's very little room to work.

But the biggest potential problem was unscrewing the three bolts for the rear engine mount. Two came out after a lot of time, swearing and PB but the third one just wouldn't move, and if it broke off we'd be in trouble because it bolts directly into the subframe and there would be no way to get at it for repair. So be careful here. Give your rust buster time to get down into the threads. When mine finally broke loose they were severly corroded.

Having said all this, it was worth the trouble, (I think) especially since my indy took pity on me and charged me a flat $200. instead of his usual $79./hr. I was so relieved I gave hime a $20. Christmas present.
