I am aware of at least one person who has successfully repaired the later model of the theft alarm. I believe you have to carefully cut the case open, then reseal it with RTV, and let it fully cure (24+ hours) before reinstalling it in the car.
I bought my replacement batteries from a source in Florida (it was http://www.batterystore.com) for $6.60 each before shipping. Two batteries is less than their minium order so you may as well buy replacement batteries for your fobs at the same time.
Some franchises of "Batteries Plus" will both sell and install the batteries for you. A great deal if you have never done printed circuit board soldering or lack the tools.
