That glue should do the trick, but if it gets worse or doesn't work, here is what you can do.

For about $50, State of Nine offers a rubber type piece just for that area. You get many choices. See the link below. However, its designed to go over the existing wood grain, is a rubber type of substance and has an ahesive backside. That makes the power lock knob to be recessed more since the surface is now that much higher with this piece of rubber.

My personal choice was to Goldwing (or any of the other bone yard type sponsors) and get a genuine used wood grain piece. Cost was $75. Take the current one out and put the new "used" one in. My wood grain was much worse with cracks and missing wood from the used car I purchased. Do verify with the vendor the light or dark wood color you have. The dash on my 99 and 00 were dark, but I think in 02 or 03, the wood dash was a light brown.

I really think your rubber cement fix will do the trick and save you the $50-$75 for either of those two options.
