I put 17" wheels on my car after i did a great job of cracking one of my 16" factory ones. I have a 99 2.3lpt SE. i used tire rack, and got some that were a brushed aluminium, They are pretty. The thing that suprised me is the total diameter of the wheel+tire is not bigger than the 16" it is the same. just more wheel and less rubber. After i got it done i got a lot of copliments on them, and it made the car look almost new. I have since put a lowering kit on it (one i bought from gen saab, to make it to '01 aero specs) and that dropped it 1cm, and it looks even better. i guess all i can say is go for it. if you want, email me, i will send you some pics of my car with my new wheels before the drop and then if you want after the 10 mm loss of hight. just some other thoughts, the 17 rims gived stronger performance but it looses some ride quality, and the suspension i did gives great performance, but again some reduced ride quality. but to me both have been worth it, i was looking for more pefromance and better handleing.
