they pull little to no amps and sharing a line similar to it's need would be fine. I have always found the hot wire going to the stereo on my factory car systems and attached my sirius, modulator or similar to that power source.

yes you must ground it a grounding point. always attaching the ground to the same ground on the stereo doesn't work and you will get the rpm interfernce you speak of but you MUST ground.

I always leave the stereo 1/2 apart when I add such a source and test drive the car. I have shifted ground sources and 12v sources before to find the least rpm noise.

inline supressors have helped on one car I had that we could eliminate the noise.
