If you have an independent shop close to you with a TechII tool, it is an option to reprogram the car to be a European car (US or NA option is the other). Further down the menu, there is an option to activate an alarm system if it is installed as an option. Select the option for not installed. Nothing else changes except for the silence you will enjoy. I've done mine that way and nothing else changes. You won't get the churps of the alarm when locking or unlocking the door but the remove works (as poorly) as before.
A minor note, I doubt it is the batteries on the siren going south (located in the left front wheel well. Probably the big box per other posts on this forum - bring more money to replace the alarm system. One of the sponsors is http://www.thesaabsite.com. Check out the prices and you will see, like I did that the above option is easier on the wallet.
I doubt if your friendly local Saab dealer will do it as they are in the business to service cars not disable components that cost $500 on up!
