engine sudden knock

its a 1999 saab 9-5 2.3t. the car suddenly on the highway lost power and began knockin. I would think if it was a rod bearing or crank bearing it wouldnt all of a sudden go and no warnin. its kind of hard to tell exactly where the knock is coming from when the hood is open. im basically hoping for a tech to read this . Do the ignition cassetee ever lose just one cylinder? any help would be appreciated
