I did mine on my 2003 Aero auto last week. It took me 30 minutes!
No need to drain the system or remove main coolant hose from thermostat housing.
Simply remove the earth cable/bracket from the rear of thermostat housing.
Undo the two housing retaining bolts (some coolant will be lost at this stage - but not much). My car has a hose retaining bracket to the rear of the housing, this needed to be gently bent down a little to allow the housing to be move away from the head. Replace thermostat and rubber O-ring with new (bleed hole at 12.00 o'clock position!) and reassemble. Top up with fresh coolant (about 1.5 pints). Done!
