2000 9-5 maintenance issues - longish

Hi,
I have a 2000 lpt 9-5 MT with only 45k miles. It is used mostly for urban driving (I understand that is harder than hiway). I had to replace the battery yesterday (OEM - 6 yrs old!) and the guy at the local tire store (not my usual mechanic) tried to sell me 2 maintenance items that seemed questionable to me. But upon further thought they may be legit and both are on SAAB's 60k major maintenance list and I wonder what the collective wisdom has to say.
1) He said that I had a cracked and frayed serpentine belt. Should one replace these based on milage OR on age - my 6 yr old belt would have 60-70k on most cars with average milage but I'll not get to 60k for a year or more. I have no problems with this at this point.
2) He said that the brake fluid was dirty (cannot recall the actual term he used) and should be flushed and re-bled. Again this is on SAAB's 60k list so should this also be replaced by age or milage alone? Again brakes seem to work great.
Thanks in advance - I love this board and love my SAAB - great car that has given me ZERO problems.
Tom
