I've used two dealships in the SF bay area over the last 25 months for two 9.5 SW's. I've not encountered the dealer service dept. behavior you mention. But, due to the high labor rates in Santa Clara and Walnut Creek,CA. and becasuse I perform some of the routine service items myself, I do present my 2001 owners manuals each time I hand over my keys, and I do ask two questions. Will you do all items indicated (excluding those marked as already done) and are there any new service items which should be added that are not reflected in this 2001 Owners manual? Generally the answers are yes and no. If they recommend new items, we discuss them and then I determine if I want them done. An example was the IDM replacemet on both cars, prior to my receipt of the recall letters. Others were, new brake pads on the Aero based on their inspecting them and a slight oil leak in the Linear which required replacing the turbo. There were not pushing small services.
