Camber / Why can't the 9-5 handle its GVWR? (long)

What about the 9-5's rear suspension makes it unable to maintain acceptable ride height when loaded? I understand that the unloaded condition has some negative camber. When loaded the car gets significantly out of spec because it squats and can't maintain ride height. The squatting throws the camber out and leads to all the problems. Eventually, i.e., if you drive enough under loaded conditions the suspension and tires fail.

My understanding of GVWR is that the vehicle can carry that load without creating an unsafe condition or causing permanent damage to the vehicle. GVWR is the weight the vehicle is designed to carry and is set by each manufacturer. My experience with 9-5 tells me that the 9-5 can't handle its approved GVWR. Yes, I know someone will chime in that it is not a truck. I have never carried anything that heavy in my car and I ask only that the car carries up to the GVWR on the vehicle placard.

I've gone in circles with SaabUSA on this issue. I am trying once again because I still have ownership problems even though they swapped out the rear suspension. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I have tried a bunch of government agencies to get some help, but all of them are underfunded and too busy fighting bigger fish where there are far more vehicles involved. Since Saab sells so few vehicles it is very hard for any concern to become widespread enough to get addressed. This is partly why it took so long for the DI issue to get attention.

The hang up at the moment seems to be the dealer rep. Both the dealer and I think he is a difficult guy, but he is the only person customer service has access to. Customer service bases their decisions on his statements. SaabUSA will do nothing because he stated the "vehicle is working as designed" which I completely agree with. However, I think it was improperly designed and/or Saab overstated the GVWR and he is not qualified and therefore cannot and should not address that issue. My conclusions stem from my experience, looking at other vehicles, posts by others on the BB, information my dealer was told by a Saab field engineer regarding the significant failure rate of rear subframes under warranty, and just my general gut feeling as an engineer.

Do all cars have this problem? What about other vehicles with a negative camber setting? Would a 5 series, A6, V70, or Outback have this problem? The space in the wagon is great but I can't fully utilize the car because of all these problems. I'm beginning to see why so many people have gone to SUVs. At least they don't break so easily (except the compacts), although many midsized SUVs stated load carrying capacity is not much grater than the 9-5. Since one can’t verify the load carrying capability of a vehicle how can one avoid getting duped by a manufacturer, intentionally or in error?
