I had this problem and fixed it, but not before I lost Sat Nav, reversing lights and Park Assist. Re-soldered and insulated. Increased the slack in the wires (you can feed more through from down near the rear light cluster).I lined the plastic insert, that the boot connects to, with felt. My problem was caused by the sharp edge of the insert cutting into the wires. No problems since (70K miles) and wires still perfect!
Good luck
