My experience with inexpensive brand tires..... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: 2000-95 tires, Sabstah, Sat, 10 Mar 2007 06:17:18 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
is that you get what you pay for.
I have had Toyo FZ-4's and Cooper SLE Sports as summer tires after the OEM Michelins.
They Toyo's were incredibly noisy, almost from day one, and became dangerous on wet roads after the tread wore 50%.
The Coopers were/are very good in all parameters except tread life. I expect more than 25,000 miles from a tire with a UTQG tread life rating of 360. Unfortunately for me, although inexpensive, they were not less than 50% of the cost of brands with a known quality reputation.
I am now looking at the Continental ContiExtremeContacts for summer tire replacements in mid-summer. Tire Rack has these for only $79 each in my desired 225/50VR16 size with lots of good reviews from many owners who have driven these 40,000 miles or more in all types of conditions. Still an inexpensive tire choice, but a well known name with many positive reviews.
