02-03s were 185hp Linears and the Arcs were the 200hp V6. The V6 Arcs all had the premium package and vented seats, a very, very nice Saab.
04 was a new ballgame, no Linear sedans, though the Linear SportWagon soldiered on. The 04 Arcs were all 220 hp fours, near Aero spec HOT 2.3's. The premium package, formerly standard on the 02-03 V6 Arcs, was a stand alone option on the 04 4 cylinder Arcs. One note is that the 185hp Linear and the 220hp Arc, both fours, get the same fuel economy.
02-03 Linears and Arcs can be spotted by their rolled under front spoiler and the MCE styling changes from 02. 04 Arcs have the protruding Aero spoiler, but not the lower Aero ride height. 04 Arcs had the rare option of 17" Double Three Spoke Wheels, but not the lower ride height Aero sport suspension to go with it.
Some folks really like the 02-03 V6 Arcs, others like me are die hard four fans, it's all good, there's no turkeys, but do check for the premium package with any Linear and any 04 Arc. The premium package tip off is memeory buttons on the drivers seat and also included the Harmon Kardon Sound and inside auto-dimming mirror. Not a deal breaker without premium, but nice stuff that doesn't really add to the value in the price guides.
The Aeros where mechanically unchanged 02 to 04, OK the 03's of all got shift paddles, but otherwise mechanically the same. 04 Aeros got new wheels and a new lower front spoiler, some say the best looking 9-5s of all some say. Is your daughter an Aero gal? Aero folks know who they are.
