Well, the quinky dink is that your CAR doesn't qualify because of the cut off year between 99 and 2000. It isn't enough 99 owners that have filed complaints with the NHTSA, I guess.
I wouldn't be surprised though if your (new)IDM qualify if it was only mounted on the right year car.
You see, if your IDM was replaced in March 2002, so your car most likely received the TK 3.4D version which was available at the time. That version (with it's many serial numbers) is what was mounted on the cars from factory included in the recall.
The TK 3.6 version which was first installed on the 2003 models when leaving factory in about August 2002, only a handful of the first ones are affected by the recall.
I think it would be difficult to explain to Saab in a way that they would warranty the IDM.
But if you find another Saab within the proper year range that hasn't been checked yet, you can drive it to the dealer parking lot and swap out the IDM to your bad one saying it happened to die right in your parking lot, what a blessing. Could you please check if maybe it is included in the IDM recall.
Ok, that might be a lot of work just to save $250.00 ;o)
