its the connection at the ribon cable that fails.
many of us have done the "fabric iron" method to fix the SID. lots of posts here. the SID pops right out, and you can use an iron set on cotton to heat up the connection at the circuit board. it works and its free.
I've done it a number of times. It is not a real fix, just a "temp workaround". it lasts through the winter, but fails a few times during the hot humid months. (I just re-do it, I have infinite patience)
many have recommended Guy Sensac, who advertises on the parts classified on this site.
