Well....there are many things that might drive a person, if you'll pardon the expression, from one make of car to another. Us, for example, and we've got 35 continuous years of SAAB ownership, starting with a Type 96 3-cylinder Two-stroke, up to our present ride, a leased '04 9-5 wagon.

To paraphrase Winston Churchill, saying that a SAAB is superior to a Kia is true, bu not exhaustive. While it's true that "Emoldo" might be asking for it by posting here with news of his move, his reasons are his own, and as another poster stated, these things ARE transportaion machinery. All of them.

In our case, we've enjoyed our years of SAAB ownership, but certain things are weighing very heavily against another one when our lease runs out in August.

1) Nearest dealer 80 miles away.

2) Vehicle price.

3) Difficulty finding a manual transmission vehicle at model year end, when deals are affordable for us.

We haven't been completely happy with any other car we've loked at- the combinations of virtues in the SAAB 9-5 are impossible to duplicate elsewhere, without significant compromise. We've learned:

1) Most cars compared to the SAAB 9-5 in advertising, forums etc. don't come that close in interior room, e.g, comparing the Audi A4 or the BMW 3-series. The true comparisons, the A6 and the 5-series, are FAR more expensive than the SAAB, and the fuel efficiency of the BMW is ridiculous.

2) The fuel efficiency of the 9-5 with the 2.3 engine is almost impossible to match, with the exception of the VW Passat 2.0T, and it lacks the front seat room of a SAAB.

3) The lack of a wide choice of true wagons (Won't even consider an SUV or "crossover") makes the SAAB an even greater standout.

So far, after a month of shopping, it seems to come down to settling for the VW Passat wagon, or giving up on wagons and getting a Nissan Altima (a surprisingly strong contender) or a Honda Accord. And I don't deny it- we'd be....settling. But there's also a good chance we're going to do it.
