The timing cover leak (actually head gasket) you will find on almost all of them.
What should be done to begin with is to install the latest PCV update to see if that cures the problem but that is certainly not an option before you have bought the car.

The Saab engines didn't have that leak until in 99/2000 when the new head gasket was put in use. To begin with we thought it was leaking because of the loose head bolts but that was only part of the story since from late 2001, these engines have better bolts that are torqued to spec.

Saab was also fiddling with many different PCV updates and it looks like the last one may be a pretty good solution but it will not cure all problems, especially if the oil leak has been allowed to go on for too long.

Transmission is always black at that mileage since it is not scheduled to be replaced until 60K and when done by the dealer, only half of the fluid is replaced.
