FWIW, I am a relatively new Saab owner of a 2003 95 Aero 5 spd that I took delivery about 9 months ago. I bought it remotely from an independent dealer in TX but had checked out what I could through Carfax, and a phone call to the dealer in Colorado. With about 24K miles I thought I got a good deal at $18.4K plus shipping.

Although I have been with German cars for twenty five years, college tuition has scotched that for the near term. I frankly bought the car because it fit my needs and wallet although I have like Saabs from afar since the early 1980s. I have to report absolutely nothing in nine months and seven thousand miles, other than new tires which were anticipated.

I did recently purchase a GM "bumper to bumper" warranty from the Saab/GM dealer for another four years or forty thousand miles. The debate over whether that it an economic benefit can go on for ever but, I am certain that major electrical issues will begin to happen at some time in the term and I don't attribute this to Saab, alone. Modern cars are so heavily weighted with computers and electronic components, that these are more likely to fail than a properly sorted and maintained engine and transmission during the same time period.

Overall, I am a very satisfied purchaser and have had surprisingly good service from the dealer (Cherry Hill Classic, in NJ)despite my concerns, that they also have a Jaguar franchise. Most people who post/read this listserv are not the usual car owners. They tend to maintain their cars more frequently and properly and I firmly believe, after almost 40 years of driving that this is the key to reliability and long term satisfaction.
