I have the same kinds of questions. I found a local wheel refinisher. He would either do the on-site refurb for $100 per wheel (refinish, then plastic overcoat, etc. - "lifetime" guarantee) or the powder coat route for $200 per wheel. Said the powder coat would require first "dipping" the wheels, off the car, tires removed, of course, (to remove old finish??), therefore the higher cost. Because it is the rims that are corroding, I can't see how they could be refinished without removal/disassembly of the wheels.
I haven't asked him about whether he can do the assembly/disassembly stuff. His business is strcitly alloy wheel refurb, and he is the subcontractor the local Saab dealer uses. I'll speak to one of the Saab techs tomorrow morning when I'm in for an oil change to see what he has to say - he had his 9-5 wheels done by the same outfit.
BTW, does powder coating still result in that bright, shiny BBS finish?
