1999 9-5, A/C ok, sometimes blower works, or doesn't

This is a gradually emerging problem. Often the AC works fine, strong blower action that matches the fan speed indicated on the display of the AC unit. This continues until, at a later time, I start the car and the blower (recirc fan) does not work.
At times like that the display indicates the fan should be blowing at this or that level, but it does not work. The same is true whether I put the control panel on Econ or leave it on AC. I am stuck driving in a car with no fan at all for a bit. Not very pleasant.
Eventually, I'll start the car up a little later (hours, days) and everything works fine. The current 70-80 degrees outside weather does seem to "confuse" the AC more than clearly hot or clearly cold weather.
Calibration works and throws up no faults. (I know about calibration because I had the air mixing box fix installed mentioned on this site installed a year ago. At about that time, I also had the compressor, etc. replaced).
What is the likely fault? What should I and then my mechanic be looking for first?
Hope you can help--this board helped me with the "alarm coming on all the time" problem as well as the "air mixing box" problem. The only one who appreciates this more than me is my mechanic.
