I finally fixed the suspension noise that some have been asking me about.
I took my car to a competent mechanic who walked over to the lift, grabbed the stabilizer link with his hand and replicated the noise...parts, 1 hour of labor and $169 later it was fixed! No more repetative metallic clunk noise over even the slightest of imperfections in the road.
I love my Aero!
Left this morning at 8AM from NYC via Garden State Parkway and cruised to Ocean City (NJ) in one hour forty minutes... Parkway was absolutely empty and the car was on cruise for most of the time, I babied it because I planned to do long distance fuel calculations when I arrived, but nonetheless I made my way South at a good clip...
2003, 9-5 Aero, 87K miles, I left NYC with a full tank of Shell 93oct, no passangers, an office chair in the back seat, windows up, A/C on, cruise set to 80-90MPH, babied the throttle. I filled up in ocean city and calculated 31.1MPG, per SID it was 31.7 with an average speed of 73 even though I moved at 85 or so it must've been the city streets... My old Avon 550's are old and not the smoothest, but I did change my spark plugs, air filter and oil last week so it was fairly "kept". I drove to, what is basically, the southern most point in NJ for $15 in gas! Wow!
On the way back, it was a drop cargo and return mission, I drove as if gas efficiency was not a priority. Also, the traffic was heavier and I made frequent use of the brakes. If I needed to I stepped on it and boost went into red. I finished in the meadowlands with an average MPG of 27.4!
The best part?!
My back feels great! Even though I slept on a sofa last night, and I certainly don't feel as if I just travelled 260+ miles... those seats are killer! In a good way.
Happy Saabin' this summer, and if fuel hits 3.50-4.00, keep it under 65!
:)
