A clue with regards to short battery life (long)

Many discussions have been held regarding the short battery life on the 9-5. Last night I attached a logging digital thermometer to the left side of the battery to sample the temperature of the battery case.
Below is the plot of temperatures. The thermometer (an iButton DS1922L, these things are SO cool) took a sample every 30 seconds. As noted on the plot, the peak is when I pulled the battery cover to get the thermometer off. Tomorrow I'll repeat this and will let the car sit for a while to watch how it cools off.
According to Interstate Battery (the maker of the battery I have), a lead acid flooded battery should never exceed 125F internally. The outside temp can be higher due to some case insulation etc. As you can see, the external temps looked to be settling at around 120F, which is rather close for comfort. I suspect the theory that the turbo and radiator piping stress the battery with heat is correct.
I have a sheet of self-adhesive aluminum radiant barrier material that I will next apply to the battery cover in an attempt to lower the battery temperature. New temperature measurements will follow, hopefully I will post 'em on Thursday or Friday.
Oh, and that rapid fall in temperature is when I was bringing the iButton inside, don't pay any attention to that :)
