Assuming the break due to corrosion was caused by acid at the battery end, it is easily prevented. Build-up on the terminals is not uncommon but can easily be prevented before it adversely influences electical contact or eats anything through. Suggest you do a search on this board for a post by Tim Brown about last February. He describes how to clean the area (regularly) and prevent any corrosion. You should not normally have acid or any liquid onto of you sealed battery.
Good Luck,
