Check engine light, no drivability change

Today, the Check Light came on. According to the owners manual the ECM has detected a fault and the car is in Limp Home mode.
No drivability change is noticed. I drove it for about 2 hrs prior and it did not come on then. It sat in a driveway at ~85F ambient temp for 5 hrs, prior to it appear the next time it was turned on.
A quick check of all fluids show that those are topped up.
I have driven only with 92 Premium (Shell or BP).
Throttle body issues last year cured by updating ECU to latest software, so I doubt thats the fault.
Checked the gas cap (reset it), and it 'seems' fine, cannot do vacuum test, although the fill nozzle does seem to have abit of play in it.
Visual undercarriage inspection shows nothing out of ordinary, with exception of Rusty muffler (several visible holes in it).
My guess is either gas cap is loose or maybe my cat converter and/or muffler is gone bad. Might try and have codes read (is it Napa or Pepboys or Oreilly that can read them?) prior to Monday.
What are other possibilities given description above?? Anyone? Swedecar?
