I agree on "mostly cosmetic". Our 2004 9-5 wagon came with the wing when we bought it. It looks great but I don't think it helps the aerodynamics or fuel economy - added weight. I also don't think it keeps the rear windshield any cleaner. It also gets in the way if you have a long item strapped to the top of the wagon and need to partially open the rear door to retrieve an item inside (like tie down straps). But it does look cool. My opinion is that if the Saab engineers thought a wing would be beneficial, they would have added one stock.
