I installed a Forge BPV (ebay, $75) this afternoon in my '01 LPT wagon. The original Bosch valve was failing (at 72k miles), getting stuck open, and causing all manner of weird trumpeting noises that I could hear courtesy of the Talliaferro Saab open air intake. I had also installed the silicone hosing for the BPV from Talliaferro when I noticed how the original tubing was crumbling to pieces. The only problem was that the OEM hose clamp on the side tube on the BPV wouldn't fit, so that was replaced with a $2.99 hose clamp.
The result: no more trumpeting noises or weird sounds when releasing the throttle, and noticeably more power. The Bosch valve must have been pretty leaky so the car is now restored to its original condition and the difference is noticeable. I will be interested to see if there's any effect on mileage.
