I don't agree with the "if you are under there do it anyhow cause you'll do it in a year". If it is intact, why replace it? it is easy for a muffler shop to cut off the old muffler and put on (weld or clamp) a new one. The labor to do this is around $40 if you walk in with your replacement muffler. probably less if they supply the muffler.
now if you want a sportier sound or a performance hit, sure, replace as much as you can afford.
I recently replaced my system from the cat back with a Remus. it sounds good and I surely have a bump in HP. the original system (6 yrs old) was completely rust free. I hung it up in the garage, saving it for when I sell the car (never) or when I get tired of the "sport sound" (doubt it) or when the Remus rusts out (shouldn't)
