Belt Fray

Less than a week after putting on a new Goodyear Gatorback short belt the dealer tells me the belt is frayed during service. They claim they saw this from underneath. I looked from above and the outer edge away from the engine is a little rough, but just barely worse than another new belt I have lying around. How bad does the fraying have to get to warrant replacement? Is some fraying on the edge of a new belt normal? Do the Gatorback belts tend to fray a little more than the OEM belts? Or should I swap out the belt?
